Preventative Healthcare Recommendations
Much of the care we provide to your pet is designed to prevent infectious disease, have early detection of metabolic disease, and provide routine medical procedures that will reduce the incidence of disease and provide population control..In order to meet these needs the administrative staff at Town & Country has developed the following Preventative Healthcare recommendations for pets under our care. Our recommendations are based on organizational recommendations such as the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), American Association of Feline Practioners (AAFP), American Association of Equine Practioners (AAEP) and other authorites.
- ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAM- Allows our veterinarians to diagnose certain age related diseases and asses the overall health of your pet
- FELINE LEUKEMIA/FIV TEST- A simple blood test to determine your pet is affected by one or both of these potnetially deadly diseases.
- VACCINATIONS- Depending on the age and risk level of your pet we may recommend any of the following. Feline Distemper/Rhino virus/Calici virus, Feline Leukemia, Rabies, Feline Infectious Peritonitis
- FECAL EXAMINATION- To asses your pet for intestinal parasites, some of which can have zoonotic potential.
- EXTERNAL PARASITE CONTROL- Fleas and ticks are easily controlled with reputable products like Revolution, Frontline, or Advantage.
- HEARTWORM PREVENTATIVE- An easily preventable disease with reputable products like Revolution, Heartguard or Interceptor
- LIFE STAGE NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING- A lot of age related disease can be controlled with a simple diet change.
- SENIOR / GERIATRIC HEALTH SCREENING- We consider this very important for any cat over the age of 8 years. Bloodwork, radiographs, urinalysis and electrocardiogram help to evaluate internal organ function which can detect problems like kidney failure and liver failure early.
- BEHAVIORAL COUNSELING- Kittens need special attention to make them sociable as they age and we can offer advice on proper training techniques.
